Hi! My name is Sarah Patterson. I am starting my fourteenth year of teaching in Catholic education and my third year at Notre Dame of De Pere. I consider my teaching career a vocation. It's a joy and an honor to share my Catholic faith with the children and my colleagues. I grew up on a farm in northeast Iowa and I am the ninth of eleven children. I graduated from UW-Platteville with a BS in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood. I returned to graduate school, through Viterbo University, and earned my WI 316 Reading License. I am also a certified Wilson Reading Instructor. My husband Paul and I live in Howard. We have three adult children, all whom received a Catholic education. In my spare time, I enjoy walking, hiking, reading and traveling to visit family and friends. I also love going to great Broadway musicals and enjoy keeping up with high school sports, the WI Badgers and our beloved Green Bay Packers!

READING SPECIALIST ROLE

Our Reading Resource department supports, supplements and extends classroom teaching, and works collaboratively to implement a quality reading and phonics program that is research-based and meets the needs of our students. We integrate the Wilson Reading and Fundations Phonics programs in our classrooms.

SUPPORTIVE CONSULTANT ROLE

We at Notre Dame have a staff member designated as a Supportive Consultant to work with and assist students and staff with students educational needs.   The following is a list of her role and responsibilities.

  • Oversee completion and distribution to parents of new and revised Teacher and GRACE Student Service Plans in collaboration with the classroom teacher(s).  As needed, include listing of accommodation and modification recommendations.
  • Attend IEP, Service Plan, and Supportive Consultation meetings as warranted.
  • Be the Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth (WCATY) Site Coordinator.
  • Be the Odyssey (computer based learning) Site Coordinator.

WISCONSIN CENTER FOR ACADEMICALLY TALENTED YOUTH

For high achieving GRACE students, there is an opportunity to participate in the Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth (WCATY).   Students participating in WCATY classes offered through GRACE will not be charged a fee.

WCATY is offered four times throughout the school year for GRACE 5th-8thgrade students scoring a 95% or higher percentile ranking in the subject areas of Reading and Language Usage on their most recent MAP assessment. A student scoring in the 90-94% Percentile Ranking in Reading and Language Usage can be eligible based on a school team decision.
