6th Grade Orientation
August 27 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
We are so excited to have your children in the middle school this year. We are looking forward to getting know them a little bit better as well.
They may be beginning to feel a little anxious about 6th grade so here is a reminder and some information about our 6th grade orientation which will be coming up a few days before the start of school.
Orientation will be held on:
Monday August 27th 1:30pm – 4:00pm
Please enter through the back parking lot doors by the flagpole. Doors will be unlocked.
To curb some of the 6th grade anxiety the teachers will be going over all things about middle school.
- The 6th graders will be getting their schedules, lockers and go through their classes so they can get the feel for the new space.
- Please bring all their supplies at that time as they will be setting up their lockers.
- If you haven’t done so by this time please bring in all your family forms
- Please have them dress casual and comfortable.
- They will also be doing a little team building and then end the day with an Ice Cream Social in the Dolski Center.
- You may pick your children up at 4:00. They will be exiting through the Dolski Center doors.
Parents are welcome to come a little early for pick up if you are new to the middle school or if you have specific questions. Mrs. Mares will be holding an informal information/Q & A session at 3:45-4:00 in the middle school gym. Please know that this is optional.
Frequently asked Questions and Answers:
Q: Are parents welcome to attend this orientation?
A: In middle school we are beginning to work on student independence. Parents may want to help their children into school with their supplies but then we ask that you leave the rest to us. We will however be having a brief informal Q&A at 3:45 for parents if you wish to come to that. Attendance is optional.
Q: Is the orientation mandatory?
A: Although we highly recommend it especially if you are new to the middle school, it is not mandatory.
Q: When can we meet the new teachers?
A: The following day (August 28) is a meet the teacher and drop off supplies for the 7th and 8th grade class. You are more then welcome to come for a very brief hello to the teachers in their individual classrooms before going to the elementary school for the cook out.
We are currently planning a meet the teacher night and schedule walk through for all the middle school parents a few weeks after school starts. This would be an ideal time to meet all of our staff, listen to the class syllabus and have a brief question and answer period with each teacher. More details to follow in the weeks to come.
Q: Should the 6th grade parents still go to the open house/tailgate on Tuesday August 28?
A: You will not need to come back on Tuesday to the middle school unless you want to. We do however, encourage all families to attend the cook out at the elementary school to meet the other parents and build our Notre Dame Community.
